Applying for Approval International Transfer

Step-by-Step guide to complete your AIT application:

Step 1: Login to Your SARS eFiling 

Step 2: Click on "Tax Status" Located in Your Top Right Corner 

Step 3: Find the Blue Bar Located on the Left of Your Page

3.1 Click on "Tax Compliance Status" 
3.2 Click on "Tax Compliance Status Request" 
 
 

Step 4: Request Approval International Transfer

4.1 Look for the section shown below
4.2 Click on the drop down box on the top of the section next to the "Request" button 
4.3 Choose "Approval International Transfer" 
4.4 Click "Request" 

Step 5: Complete Each of the Drop Down Sections 

Please Note:
1. The drop down sections will start off as red and as you complete them they will turn blue. If one of the sections remains red, it means something is incorrect in that section 
2. If a block in a section has a lock on it, it means that either SARS fills the section in on your behalf or you must first complete another section before that. Please try and follow the order as shown below to avoid this 

Step 6: Start with Assets and Liabilities and Work Your Way Up

6.1 By your " Foreign Assets and Liabilities Details" section, you can put zeros for everything unless it applies to you
6.2 By the " South African Assets and Liabilities Details", fill in your current amounts in all relevant sections to you

6.3 Fill in the "Source(s) where the value to be transferred arose from Details" 
6.4 You will fill in the bank account information of where the funds, that you are going to trade with, are currently sitting 

6.5 Fill in the "International Transfer Details" 
6.6 The amount to be filled in here will be the same amount you entered in the above section (6.4)

6.7 Fill in the " International Investment Type Details" as shown below 
6.8 The amount will be the same as in step 6.4 and 6.6 

6.9 Fill in the last section- " Taxpayer Details" 
6.10 Most of the information will already be filled in for you, you will just have to fill in your Cell number and Email
6.11 Tick "No" by " Is this request completed by an authorised representative on behalf of the taxpayer?" and "Is this request in respect of a Partnership/ Joint Venture?"

Step 7: Click the "Submit to SARS" Button on the Top of the Page

7.1 Once all your drop down boxes have turned from red to blue, you can submit your application 

Step 8: Documentation

Your application is now being processed. It normally takes between 10 to 20 mins to receive the correspondence from SARS. 
8.1 After you have submitted your application, SARS will be in contact with you to submit documentation. 
8.2 The Correspondence will be in a letter format found on the eFiling page 
8.3 The letter will tell you what documentation you need to submit
8.4 This letter can be found by your AIT application as shown below
8.5 Click on "Approval International Transfer"  and then on your Request Reference Number for that application 


8.6 You will then see the following 
8.7 Click on the " View" button by the " Letter Description" Section

Step 9: Submit Required Documents 

9.1 You will have to submit an Assets and Liability Sheet for the past three years. There is a template for this in the attachments.  
9.2 You will have to submit a bank statement as proof that you have the funds and that they come from your account.
9.3 You will have to submit a transaction history from VALR as well. You can request this document from AMI Trading. 
9.4 Submit any other documents that could be relevant to your case, for example a Bank Confirmation Letter, or a Spouse Loan Agreement. 
9.4 Your documents will be uploaded under the "Supporting Documents" section, as seen in the above picture
